Welcome to our Dog Park!
After a couple of years in business, the grass lawn we had before was no longer cutting it. Between business growth that was seeing more wonderful pups here on a regular basis, lots of running and wrestling, and serious freeze that killed off a LOT of grass, and a hot summer drought that worked it’s way through the remaining grass…the yard was in poor shape.
After months of battling the inevitable, I decided to throw in the towel on trying to regrow the remaining blades of grass and committed to turning the backyard into the private dog park of our dreams!
I hired SynLawn Houston to rip out the grass and install pet turf over the whole yard. The turf is special because it’s coated to prevent it from getting too hot on dogs paws and also includes drainage underneath to help keep odors at bay.
After the turf was installed, we added some fun new play structures, most notably what we affectionately call the PuppyDome (because we can’t represent HTX without a nod to the Astrodome!!). The pups adore the dome! They run circles around it playing chase and zip inside the dome to have ultimate wrestling sessions. I’ve also caught them laying underneath it just looking up into the trees.
We decided to add a small climbing structure for pups who wanted to jump up and get a better view of the yard. We found this old whiskey barrel cut in half and flipped it over to make a very sturdy climbing area that is easy for pups of all sizes to get up on.
We wanted to create a shaded space in the yard to encourage dogs to take a rest when they wanted one. We got this 20 foot sun sail and attached it to the fence corner, added a couple raised dog beds underneath, and now we have the perfect shady spot for an afternoon nap.
For extra warm days we have this splash pad for the pups to run through or wade in. While not everyone wants to get wet, for the ones who do, this is a BIG hit!
Initially this hammock was for the humans, but the dogs have VERY quickly realized how comfortable it is and are begging to join or trying to get up there themselves for a snooze break.
And finally, the ball pit made entirely of tennis balls. It’s a huge hit with the pups who enjoy using it as a ball pit and also fishing tennis balls out for a game of fetch or to run around the yard with!
We are SO pleased with how our private dog park has turned out so far, and look forward to adding new surprises as time goes on. The dogs have adored spending their time out here and we are so thankful for the opportunity to grow into this season of our business!
